Can you knit? Can you purl? If so, you can make these simple and fun wristlets. I've used self patterning sock yarn to achieve the stranded appearance, but you could use any yarn that gives you gauge.
If you are a more advanced knitter and have extra yarn left over from some socks, these mitts use very little yarn and are a great way to use up leftovers.
Gauge:
34 stitches x 44 rows = 4"
Supplies:
- #2 needles
-
>1 skeins of self patterning sock yarn
-
Tapestry needle
- Optional: small metal crochet hook
Stitches used:
- 2 x 2 ribbing
- K
- P
Pattern
CO about 61 stitches. You may change this number to any multiple of 4+1. Make sure you have about a 12" tail for seaming
Work in 2x2 ribbing for 1". This is the cuff. You may lengthen it if you prefer.
Work in stockinette for the length you'd like the wristlet to be, minus a half inch. Measure from your wrist to your first set of knuckles to determine the length, then subtract half an inch.
Work in 2x2 ribbing for half an inch.
Bind off in pattern.
Leave a tail about 14" long for seaming.
Finishing
Seam up the cuff ribbing (the first inch of ribbing you worked) using the CO tail.
Place mitt on hand to determine how much space you need for your thumb. I like about 1.5" but your results may vary.
Remove mitt, noting the point that corresponds to the top of your thumb. Using the BO tail, sew from the top of the mitt down to where the top of your thumb will be.
Try on mitt to be sure of the fit.
If you are happy, weave in all the ends.
Optionally, for an extra clean finish, single crochet evenly around thumb opening.
